Pyrotell-T lysate was the first LAL reagent specially formulated for turbidimetric assays. The reaction is based on the principle that in the presence of endotoxin LAL becomes turbid. The rate of increase in turbidity is proportional to the amount of endotoxin in a sample. The rate of increase in optical density is used, in this method to quantify endotoxin.
Turbidimetric assays with Pyrotell-T reagent may be performed in our own Pyros® Kinetix, LAL-5000, and the ELx808® from Biotek, as well as other readers. The turbidmetric LAL methods are rapid, specific, easy to perform, and economical. The sensitivity of the assay depends on the protocol and instrumentation. The maximum sensitivity, 0.001 EU/mL, may be obtained in the LAL-5000 and the Pyros Kinetix systems.
